Melissa Harris-Perry Gives Tear-Filled Apology to Mitt Romney for Black Grandchild Jokes

MSNBC host says she never meant to make fun of interracial families

Melissa Harris-Perry broke into tears on Saturday while apologizing to Mitt Romney and his family for comments made on her MSNBC show about the former Republican presidential candidate's adopted, African-American grandchild, Kiernan Romney.

“I am deeply sorry that we suggested that interracial families are in any way funny, or deserving of ridicule,” Harris-Perry said at the beginning of the morning edition of the ”Melissa Harris-Perry” show.

Her voice cracking and her eyes welling over, Harris-Perry said she apologized to the Romney family “without reservation or qualification” and added, “My intention was not malicious, but I broke the ground rule that families are off-limits. For that, I am sorry.”

Harris-Perry has been fiercely criticized for presiding over a segment last weekend that used an image of the Romney family to illustrate what it claimed was the monochromatic nature of the Republican Party.

“It sums up the diversity of the Republican Party and the [Republican National Committee], where they have the whole convention and they find the one black person,” panelist Dean Obeidallah joked.

During the segment, Harris-Perry said she would like to see the Romney's African-American grandchild grow up and get married to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian‘s daughter, North.

“Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?” she mused.

The MSNBC host said that her comments were glib and not representative of the ideals her show espouses.

“On this program, we are dedicated to advocating for a wide diversity of families, it is one of our core principles,” Harris-Perry said. “And I am reminded that when we do so, it must be with the utmost respect. We're genuinely appreciative of everyone who offered serious criticisms of last Sunday's program, and I am reminded that our fiercest critics can sometimes be our best teachers.”

  • RepubliConsMustDie

No apology of any kind was necessary. NONE.

    • Shirley Denhardt

Oh, Yeah, again a double standard for blacks, rich or poor. Blacks can say or do anything they want and the rest of civilazation has to grin and bare it. Not so! And if you call this an apology, you are sadly mistaken. She didn't in anyway say that she was sorry for bing a vile person with no class!

      • Bob

Why does everything have to be about a black and white??? Can't we all just agree that it is wrong to make fun of a children and interracial families.

        • Jermain Johnson

Silliness and pettiness of politics since 2008. Go figure who started it.

        • Cloyd Brock

yes, and to go a little bit more on this, the only reason she is sorry is that she was catching so much heat, not because of what she said, I do not think she is sorry one damn bit!!!

      • Michael English

When did it become vile to call a baby “gorgeous” or to suggest it would be great in 23 years that that baby got married to another person with publicly known parents? In what way is that vile? Attempt to answer this or you prove that you NEVER watched the original clip. Those that judge without facts are the saddest people.

    • SoWrong

But I guess if a white Republican or even a black Republican had said the same things, then you would be the first DEMANDING and apology. What was said was WRONG no matter who said it and an apology was certainly necessary. Looks like the network and Harris-Perry thought so too, otherwise they/she wouldn't have apologized. Your type of Democracy is the very type that's bringing down this country and is what's making this country a fading super power in the world. But the sad thing is that you are totally clueless as to why that's the case.

      • Jermain Johnson

This country fading super power is because of cons and teas in congress since 2008.

        • Prange

Don't leftists WANT American power to fade?

          • Jermain Johnson

            No, they don't.

          • Michael English

No, of course not. Are you nuts?

    • Erin

Just because you personally were not offended by her comments does not mean an apology was unnecessary unless you consider yourself the center of the universe. I found it extremely insensitive and I was deeply offended by them. Doubling the offense is that she is clearly mixed race herself and should know better. That being said, I know some may say she apologized purely out of fear of losing her job, and that may be true, but she is also an intelligent and educated woman and had time to reflect on her moment of idiocy. I feel her apology was sincere and she showed genuine remorse. Good enough for me.

      • Guest

What exactly did she say that was offensive? That baby K was “gorgeous”? That it would be great if he and North West got married in 2014? What did she say? I doubt you can answer this in any way whatsoever.

        • Erin

Did you not read the article, or perhaps watch the news when the story came out? That would be a first step into understanding what was offensive. I don't know why “you doubt I can answer this in any way”. If you can read, or comprehend, you'll find the answer, it's pretty simple. If you don't find anything offensive with what she said, it probably doesn't affect you in any way. If SHE didn't think she said anything offensive, she wouldn't have broke down the way she did. She made a mistake, I said I believe her apology was sincere. Time to move on.

    • Barbara Ball

So surprised you can spell liberal jerk.

      • Joe

I can spell it also, liberal JERK!

    • TrollsCraveAttention

      Irrelevant

    • Joe

Humm, mental illness perhaps? No apology can repair this outrageous gaff. She needs to go.

      • Michael English

What gaff? Calling a baby “gorgeous”???

  • Tom

Be careful, you'll lose your job. Bashir did.

    • Joe

Too late! She needs to go now.

      • Arlene A LeBeauf

It takes a Big Person to Admit mistakes and a Bigger person to apologize for their mistakes..There are a LOT others that have talked about the Presidents daughters and other races on networks Who has Yet to apologize or even admit wrong, I DO NOT need to mention any names, they are Still there, still doing the same, spreading Racism, etc.. Move On

        • Joe

It takes a scared person to admit HER mistake! Now if she would have done it before the uproar. We will all move on when she's out the door.

          • blackhawkswincup2013

Oh, baloney. Mitt did the right thing, and everyone should follow his example.

          • Joe

            Aren't I agreeing with you?

        • SamyyCiao

She's just trying to save her job – she is a worst kind of racist

      • tonyr62

What would Jesus do? Oh way – you are a tea bagger – you don't care!

        • Joe

Dearest Tony, I am not a tea bagger. Jesus would not make fun of a baby and his family. She would never had apologized if not confronted. You sound like a very angry person. Jesus would forgive and then send her on her way.

          • tonyr62

Well, you sound like a self righteous tea bagger, but you say you are not, so I guess you can't tell what kind of person someone is by what they “sound like”

    • olfisherman

Why do you think she was crying, certainly not because she was truly sorry for making fun of the family, just for the fear of losing her job, which she should, this isn't the first time she has taken the racism road.

    • jordonvuz355

This woman has consistently shown her true colors as a nasty horrible person. It is her schtick to be aggressive, vile and crude. I hope she gets kicked out like that idiot Bashir.

    • SamyyCiao

      Horrible Human Being

  • Gordon Schneider

yeah…I hope you as a black person gets fired…you are 2 steps behind the normal family, and the Romneys are above board and make you, you nasty, mean-spirited gutter trash, need to get in the welfare line, and take your rightful place there!

  • fai harris

why is this worthy of response…she is an unintelligent unsophisticated insenstive person..how did she get a cushy job like that?

  • Dante

Well done. Hopefully, this will mean a change in tone at MSNBC.

  • mganey

The Republicans can sure dish it out but their sure can't take it! As long as the Republicans allow their shock jocks to continue to put out their crap I don't want to hear it from them!

    • Exetarian

It's not a team sport. Individuals take responsibility for their own shows and actions. But if you can find an example of a Fox personality who didn't just attack policy but who went after someone's family, in particular a child, by all means post away.

      • mganey

You don't get out much do you? Rush Limbaugh is the Number one Shock Jock for the Republican Party! If you would read the history of the parties you would not be so quick to defend the Republicans!

        • CALIFORNIAMARTY

Rush tells it straight. Obama is a lie machine and his scandals are all documented. To continue to deny them is pathetic and tragic.

          • mganey

Check your history, who caused the Great Depression, most wars except WWW 2, The total recession of 2008, etc, etc, etc!

      • Jermain Johnson

Since 2008 there have been from the rightists, and Fox folks. Please don't ask me to go dig them out.

        • Exetarian

I'm not saying it never happened. It just hasn't happened in a long enough time for me to have any recollection. And even still, that's no excuse. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Children are off limits.

      • Carsen

Rush Limbaugh said Chelsea Clinton looked like a dog and Sean Hannity also made some cruel remarks about her.

    • SoWrong

Oh give me a break. Democrat liberals are some of the most sensitive people in the WORLD. Paula Deen or Phil Robertson ring a bell? Just suffice to say that some things are wrong to say, NO MATTER WHO SAYS THEM, white or black, conservative or liberal, Democrat or Republican. Now get over yourself and never claim that you're not sensitive when it comes to something you care about or something that should matter universally. You know you are.

      • mganey

Rush Limbaugh that is all I need to say!

        • So Wrong

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, that's all I need to say!

          • mganey

I guess 2 bigots is equal to one big one, only the 2 don't get paid as such for being one!

          • So Wrong

Not at all. It just proves that the Dems have more bigots than the Reps, no matter how much they get paid.

          • krwpackfan12

Really….let's fight about who has more bigots in their party! Grow up people!

          • So Wrong

That you are taking the time to reply must mean that it's an important issue to you. So I guess that you need to grow up as well.

          • petedaven

Forget about parties, typically a bigot is actually the one calling someone a bigot. The difference is the white person will pay an extreme hefty penalty and the black…..not much remember they were slaves, they're very loud, and in spite of what they say there convictions are after the fact, the real truth is their convictions at the time of the issue, sorry doesn't cut it, sorry is the adjective used for people who think their cute in joking about race.
This is simply a racial slur coming from an African-American and has nothing to do with Gov't parties unless you are attempting to skew the real issue.
If someone is accuse of a racial slur, i.e. Paula Dean, and has taken the brunt of media and cultural abuse then let's keep it fair Harris-Perry should reek those same “benefits” for being an embarrassment on the air and for being negatively racial..

        • don warremn

Yea that big fat greasy pig, Limbaugh gets away with murder. And that other nut case O'reily……

          • Harvey M Carp

O'reilly is a nut? You better listen up!

          • SamyyCiao

Writes great books – best sellers for weeks on end – bet no liberal can claim that – how how Ed from the Ed show that fat slob, or Chris, maybe Rachael, Rev Al how about Harris-Perry- give me a break – next she will be doing a TV show with a white guy like Scandal to show she is not a racist LOL!

      • CALIFORNIAMARTY

Paula Deen said that decades ago she used the N word. She apologized profusely, and no one even knew about it.
The Democrat KKK not only used the N word. They hanged those that they vilified. The GOP freed the slaves, ended Jim Crow and enacted Civil Rights. THAT IS WHY MLK was a Republican.

        • So Wrong

And??? I'm talking about NOW, TODAY. What relevance does your statement have to do with that? I'm talking about TODAY'S Democrats and Republicans. They don't compare to the parties of over 50/100 years ago. In many cases they have almost switched ideologies.

        • John McLeod

@CaliforniaMarty….Just like always! You twist everything! Here is a quote from MLK – “The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism,” King wrote in his autobiography.
The Party of Lincoln – which was the brand new Republican Party from the ashes of the Whigs – unfortunately the Republican Party started to lean heavily towards big business but was strong and unified. The Democratic Party, anti-war (Civil War and pro-South) also had many diverse factions within it – labor in particular. Civil Rights! – JFK started the work towards this and LBJ completed it – according to you they must have been Republicans???? The GOP at the time that the Civil Rights Act was passed had all of the Democratic Party fleeing KKK and Southern bigots streaming to join the Republican Party. Jim Crow ended after this… you want to give the credit to the GOP?????
It must be nice to be able to make up History as you go and not be challenged.
          Idiot!

    • MSNBCYA!!

Fat, old liberals who drive 1985 Subaru's shouldn't be allowed to use public computers at the library…

      • mganey

I fought for my country in it's darkest hour (1966-1970) so you have the right to comment ! So just think before you post!

        • John McLeod

Thank You! mganey for your service and for your statements!

        • don warremn

          Sooooooooooooooo, and your point.

          • mganey

Boy! I fought to give him the right to speak his mind so don't deny me my right! Oh by the way I have 5 computers with in hands reach!

    • Bruce Means

Well said mganey. You are correct, they can dish it out, but they can't / refuse to take it. What cowards. What cowards, to adopt a black child for show. This adoption is so wrong in so many ways AND who will suffer, this child. This is truly a new low for the Romneys.

      • Andy

Bruce – You have some audacity saying that it was low for the Romney's to adopt a black baby. Because they adopted a black baby they're cowards? You are one sick, disgusting individual to denigrate a family for opening their hearts and homes to a child who did not have a family of their own. And note – I loathe what Romeny and the Establishment Republicans stand for but I applaud what he did with this adoption. This has nothing to do with politics. This is about giving love to a child who had no one to love him back. You should be ashamed of yourself suggesting it was wrong for them to adopt a black child. Would you rather have the child still in foster care with no stable home? I suppose it would have been better had they adopted a white child according to your twisted view of the word. It astounds me that people like you exist in the world.

        • Bruce Means

Andy, Andy…….why so hostile? I am entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. I did not denigrate your character, I called you no names. The Romneys showed us their character during the 2012 elections. They demonstrated no love / kindness towards minorities. This adoption is for show and nothing more. This black child adoption is their way back into the “real” world and back into the media. I still say what a new “low” for the Romneys to get back into the media. Do you not think, they knew this adoption would stir up a pot?

          • shazaka

And you know this through your omniscience and your telepathy, perhaps? I like to assume that when someone adopts a child, it's to give that child a loving home.

          • Bruce Means

Nooooooo, I have yet to master my telepathy. I'm expressing my opinions. AND, have you heard that when one assumes…………………………..

  • Michael Johnson

Boo hoo, I might lose my job. I hope you do. I'm not one to call names, but it's obvious you're a racist screaming racism. You can put a suit on a pig, but you still have –

    • mganey

      Then their is Rush Limbaugh!

      • Ribsburger

Yes we get it. You're a huge Rush fan…and a broken record.

  • Barbara Ball

Stupid racist bitch, but we are talking about the worst television of all time so it's expected.

    • Michael English

You are an absolute monster and a coward hiding behind a computer.

  • christ_bearer

NO! NO!… NO WAY! NO MERCY for Melissa Harris Perry… she is sorry
because she received massive heat on this one… because she has a Rap
Sheet of saying the most offensive comments!!.. NO WAY.. oohH .. your
crying..?!? Yeah… your crying because your in the hot seat and your
feeling the repercussions and backlash.. FIRE HER NOW!! She has gotten
away with too many unjust comments on her show. She is an angry “Real
Racist” with a chip on her shoulder just like Marc Lamont Hill.. and
these are the people teaching our kids in American Universities. Enough
is enough… MSNBC has turned int a major ad campaign our Fraudulent POTUS and she has been nothing but a cheer-leader for him through
the “oppressed” minority view. They are extremely biased and her time
has come to an end thanks to segments like this. She is a serious
Marxist with delusional “Progressive” ideals that needs to be taken off
    the air now!

    • mganey

I guess you never of Rush Limbaugh who has never said a positive thing mon his program!

      • christ_bearer

Rush is an massive A-Hole.. and your point is?

        • mganey

And he is owned by the Republican Party! My point!

          • christ_bearer

I'm not a Republican.. go bark up another Conservative tree

        • don warremn

Fox is a coward network, that support racism.

    • Cloyd Brock

Thank you, she needs to go!!!

      • don warremn

She's not going anywhere. One thing I can say about Cnbc, yo can't say anything, like Fox.

  • Richie Rich

Why was the baby boy wearing pink? And Google the name “Kieran”…

    • Joe

Boys can have the name Kieran. The pink I don't know?

      • Erin

Joe…I think I disagree with most of your comments, but this one made me laugh.

      • Richie Rich

Kieran ki(e)-ran as a boy's name is pronounced KEER-en. It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Kieran is “black”.

  • liz29

The kid was off limits she should have realized that it was a mistake one of the very few she has ever made. Time to move on.

    • mganey

Just like Rush Limbaugh went over the limit with his racist comments!

    • Joe

One of the very few she has made?? This was not something to be overlooked. She needs to go!

  • sara

She needs to fired. Those ‘jokes’ were cruel and to have a bunch of dimwitted adults stoop that low to get to someone is just horrid.

MSNBC = Fox News: Idiots trying to prove to the world they are the #1 idiot!

    • mganey

I agree as soon as they fire all the Republican's Jock Shocks!

  • Melissa Bigot-Ick

Uh – who is Melissa Harry Parry whatever? Hello…, you're a nobody. Nobody cares what you think and nobody watches you. Why don't you get off your duff and go adopt a black baby? I'm an adoptive parent and there are at least 20 times as many African American children available for adoption as white. Why is that? Well despite what you hear – that everybody prefers white babies,,, the truth is there are more African American children removed from their parent's homes due to neglect and abuse, and babies born to drug using mothers. The African American community does not adopt, it's the white – or should I say White, community that adopts. If you don't like this, go check out the figures for yourself. It's true that many black kids are raised by other family members and never enter the adoption system at all, which is a credit to the older generation who is willing to step up and take responsibility. But how dare you criticize a family like the Romney's, who have done nothing but accomplish things. They gave a home to a child and probably wanted nothing more than to raise a child as their own, no matter what the skin color. So who is the bigoted racist? I think you are Ms. Harry Parry.
To suggest the kid grows up to marry into the likes of the entertainment scum family of America – the West/Kardashian. Ick.

There's a reason we all started subscribing to Netflix and Amazon Prime, we can just TURN YOU LIMOUSINE LIBERAL BIGOTS OFF.

    • mganey

I agree with you except when it comes to a low life like most politicians!

    • Erin

I am all up for a healthy, respectful exchange of opinions, but I have to say, your comment seemed a little over the top. First, she did say something completely idiotic, I was actually pretty appalled by it, but she just completely acknowledged, owned up to and (I believe) sincerely apologized for what she said. I was deeply offended by her comment, but how long do you beat a dead horse? At some point, everyone on both sides says moronic things, but we move on. She's not the first or last to say something stupid. Secondly, in regards to the 20 to 1 ratio of black to white babies available for adoption, do you at all think the disparity is due to the fact that most white pregnancies end in abortion rather than carry the pregnancy to term? I'm sure the percentages of black vs. white abortion would be a huge factor. I'm white, not at all a “liberal”, but I do like to consider all things with an open mind and not make any sweeping generalizations about either side.

      • Joe

Exactly! That's why she needs to go.

        • John McLeod

          @Joe…well read! Well understood! Bravo!
Just in case this goes over your head – this is sarcasm.

      • KWags

Thank you. As a Black woman, I am equally appalled by Harris-Perry and “Melissa Bigot-ick”. Opposite sides of the same hate spectrum.
Regarding Harris-Perry, I beg to disagree about her “apology”. It lacks sincerity in that it is almost verbatim what she initially – and with much cowardice – tweeted earlier in the week. It's damage control at it's most transparent. If she were male, white and/or Republican, she would have already been summarily dismissed. Why this woman still has a position at this Godforsaken channel is beyond me.

        • SamyyCiao

Should have been fired by now – RACIST

    • Bruce Means

Apparently you are still watching MHP. Why so hostile? Why the name calling? AND, MHP is well respected among her peers? AND, that respect will continue.

    • Michael English

      You a damn mess.

  • MSNBCYA!!

Mewissa Hahwiss Speech Impediment Pehwee is just pithed awff because her great great grand daddy was owned by Mitt's ancestors. This hypocritical bitch is a prime example of the racist half black poster child that calls the kettle black when she herself is half white. All of the morons on MSLSD should be fired and then tried for treason against America…

    • Erin

Clearly you hate MSNBC and that is fine, but Treason?!?!? LOL. Come on!! When anyone makes such a ridiculous comment it diminishes any valid point they made previously.

    • Michael English

You have obviously not watched the original clip. She never said one thing remotely racist. She called the baby ‘gorgeous'.

  • Sue

    Sufferin Succotash!

    • mganey

      You got that one right!

  • Phil Brownlowe

Crock tears. MSNBC is the HATE network.

    • mganey

      And Fox Network is Not?

      • Joe

Liberals complain about Fox. It's the No.#1 cable news network. There is always a conservative and a liberal weighing in on all topics of discussion. Now let's see, —–
        MSNBC—–Not even close. Hate spewers!

      • mike

Are you kidding with Oreily,Hannity, ingalls,Beck,Limbaug, and those racist idiots that FOX NEWS hires.Lest we forget dumbass Dick Morris.

      • Joe

There is ALWAYS a conservative and a liberal view point for every discussion. You just need to watch Fox to see for yourself. It's clear you have not.

        • mganey

That is the problem, I have! They made me give up TV and to stop reading anything that they write! And by the way they feel the same about me, I am band from commenting on their site, even though I read there rules for posting and followed it to the letter! Commies!

    • Joe

      Bingo and Ditto!

    • don warremn

Why…is it because you're a racist and can't handle the truth.

    • John McLeod

The only things given HATE by MSNBC is distortion, fabrication, and lies. If this is all you perceive coming from them then you are composed of distortions, fabrications and lies.

  • magnolia3

The only thing that Harris-Perry is sorry for or about is the severe criticism that she's rightly received as a result of what she and her fellow imbeciles said in the segment in question. She's pathetic, as are the rest of fools at MSNBC. It seems that a week doesn't go by without someone from that channel having to make some kind of mea culpa for something asinine that they've said or done.

  • Bruce Means

Melissa Harris Perry, I am sorry you felt you needed
to apologize to the Romney Family. I saw nothing wrong with the
comments that were made. This adoption just seems so out of character
for the Romney clan. I wish this boy a good, fair life. But he will be
raised and surrounded by people who have not demonstrated a tolerance
of other races. Maybe this is a start for them to repent and learn to
accept others that are not like them. Only time will tell.

    • MrsBulldoggy .

You are a part of the ever-growing problem in this country of division and hate. You believe what these sycophants tell you without looking further into people of the Mormon faith. The Romney's are Mormons and Mormons believe in family, large families. I know, I've worked and lived with them for over 20 years. They open their hearts and their homes to EVERYONE including people of color. When Hurricane Katrina hit, MANY MORMONS opened their homes to blacks displaced by the tragedy.
Yet, you think it is okay to disparage the Romney family for opening their hearts and home to another child. You have NO IDEA who the Romney's are, you are just an useful idiot that does not take the time to do your own research. Or get to know Mormons or Whites who open their homes to black children.
Melissa Harris-Perry should be fired for fanning the flames of hate and further trying to divide the races in this country. MSNBC is nothing but a channel filled with hate-mongers and pot stirrers.

      • mganey

I would agree if this was not someone who believes in the Republican Party!

      • Erin

I agree with you partially, but I have to say, the part about them being welcoming (not the Romney's in particular, but Mormons in general) are not too fond of “people of color”. Until recent years, they actually called black people “cursed” and “the descendants of Cain”. That does not seem too welcoming to me.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tls-Simms/100003999837282 Tls Simms

Please check your history on the MORMONS..today's MORMONS suppose to be a lot better than in the past –well at least some of them.

      • Bruce Means

bullydoggy, Why so hostile, I am entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. I called no one names AND, your attitude, tone and hateful manner is the type of hostile environment these black children will no doubt be raised in. Smiles for the camera, cries of “we are helping this black child”, but misery within the home. Romney and his family showed us who they were and what they represented during the 2012 political campaign. When you have to use minority children to show / prove that you like minorities that is pretty shallow and sad.

    • Joe

How could YOU possibly know what is out of character for the Romney family? How could you possibly??? Perhaps you need to repent and go away like Harris-Perry

      • Bruce Means

Romney and his family showed their character throughout the 2012 political campaign. (one of the sons wanted to engage the President in a fist fight) Need I say more? To adopt minority children for show, has got to be a new “low”.

    • John McLeod

I am a huge supporter of this very intelligent, quick-witted, knowledgeable and entrenched liberal who made this horrible mistake. She was taken unprepared by the picture suddenly being shown to her for the first time AND at the same time being on-air. Her reaction was unfortunate and rude. She knows this. She has apologized for it. Please be fully aware that her reaction was based upon the entire picture of all the Romney family (and what we all know about them) with this one very lonely black grandchild. Can you see a parallel to the discovery and open declaration of Dick Cheney's daughter being gay? Can you imagine the family conversations at the time? In the same vein, I wonder what the conversations were like while Mitt's son was working on this particular adoption. The humor was NOT aimed at the child, it was aimed at the Romney clan and in particular Mitt and everything he stands for, my friends.

      • Bruce Means

John, you are correct. Why does others not see that. Melissa's comments WERE “aimed at the Romney clan and in particular Mitt and everything he stands for.” Most of these posters are ready to go for Melissa's jugular without understanding who are comments were directed at. They seem to have forgot how Romney and his clan showed us who they were during the 2012 election and now to bring a “black” child into their fold. A new political low!

  • CALIFORNIAMARTY

SHE SAYS HER “INTENTIONS WERE NOT MALICIOUS”! THAT IS THE LIE THAT SCUTTLES THE APOLOGY.
Her crocodile tears are over the fear of being fired from her nasty cushy job.
She already admitted that she harbors an antipathy for Mitt Romney…a hatred is more like it.

    • mganey

I bet you never said something and later regret it! Call the Pope we have a saint here!

      • John McLeod

        LOL! Well said!

      • Joe

Or perhaps just an honest decent person that doesn't fight below the belt. A.K.A.= Harris-Perry.

  • CALIFORNIAMARTY

Obama endorsed the hate speech of Jeremiah Wright for twenty years. He called Wright his mentor, an uncle. That man spewed hatred for Whites, Jews, America and anyone not Black.
Obama never apologized. Malignant narcissists never do.

This woman and the scum that MSNBC hires to do their dirty work of chastising and mocking the Republicans, the Tea Party etc ad nauseum is a failing network. Only the cranks of the left watch that gusher of hate.

    • mganey

I have been to about ever Church origination in this country and I find that at some time or another they all spew some kind of hate, that how they keep people coming and filling their pocks!

    • SamyyCiao

Obama used the dumb ass unemployed white college kids living in Mom & Dads basembement watching reruns of Star Trek and on internet all day long reading Obama's blogs some 18 million white kids – and the white soccer Mom's to win both elections – Hillary will also – Obamaa never said much about Rev Wright after his racist hate surfaced – McCain and Mitt should have brought Wright back out – they would have won.

  • MrsBulldoggy .

She is upset because she was called on the carpet for her despicable behavior. What her and her cronies spoke of the first time around is the unbridled truth of how they really feel towards anyone who is not in their circle. No wonder MSNBC's viewership is the lowest in the nation…

  • Jerome Smith

Who are you to post your feelings about or to anyone about their decision making process? MSNBC you need to fire this so called Harris-Perry. She is a continued disgrace to news/public. She is clearly an ignorant person who believes she has the world by its tail. Because she has an anchor news job she can say/express whatever the hell she wants to say. Her crying apology was only directed to her perhaps getting fired (and she needs to quickly). We're already divided by present administration. Fire this woman NOW, She's already positioned herself to be a clear and present danger to MCNBC and the public. FIRE HER NOW.
    JEs/Vietnam Veteran/Purple Heart

  • CALIFORNIAMARTY

Crocodile tears over fear of losing her job of smearing Republicans. She inserts that “she had no malicious intent” in uttering her stupid comments and yet days ago she had malicious intent because of her great antipathy (my word not hers) for Mitt Romney.
This cesspool of a network is on the ropes and soon there will be no one left to apologize.
The MSNBC executives should apologize and NOW!!!!

  • Stuart W

Harris-Perry's “apology” a severe case of crocodile tears.

MSNBC'S news commentator's and executive's reactions a cause for mirth in their
dizzying ascension to the nadir of the ratings-heap.

  • MojoMan713

The tide has finally turned. Now the leftists are being held accountable to the same ridiculous, hair-trigger, hypersensitive standards that people from the right have been held accountable to for years.

    It is about F'ing time.

  • Juan Carlos

Fake apology, her eyes never teared nor got red

    • Erin

LOL…I think some semblance of composure is required for her job.

  • Jackie Francois

Ok, all of you just grab a cup of coffee, sit on a block of ice and chill. An individual made a comment that she should not have and all of you are vilifying one another. What make you better or worse than that person when you are reducing each other to nothing with your words.
The child does not give a damn about who his parents are as long as he is loved and taken care of. Lucky for us, children are born race and color blind.

Get a life, there is enough problem in this world already and all you do is either yapping about it or pointing the fingers at each other.

May the one whom never sin throw the 1st rock just be sure you do not live in a glass house!

  • Jermain Johnson

Sure she crossed the line, but let her stay. imho!

  • TxnCo

She talks with a lisp and I think her bosses jumped her butt and told her to apolgize the right way and not tweet it out…..ugh..

  • yeppers

I find that the conversation causing all this is not on Harris-Perry, solely. It's symptomatic of a bigger problem in our media. All the shows, conservative or liberal, have these generally privileged, detached from the mainstream personalities who get caught up in their false realities. Look at the old Crossfire clip with Jon Stewart, or Russell Brand on Morning Joe this year. I give Harris-Perry kudos. For some reason, I believe she understands what's at stake here. She made a mistake, that false world those people create – one she lives in, blinded her to another reality that she is very much a part of. This apology was genuine, real, and absent of party crap. We need more genuine and real, anywhere in the media that we can get it.

  • wrmad

Its time a disclaimer is shown each 30 minutes stating, MSNBC is a paid political organization for the Democratic party.

    • Qui davis

and FOX news the same about the Republican party. Both networks are intensely biased.

  • Qui davis

She wasn't crying because she felt bad. she is crying because she is embarrassed of how absolutely ridiculous, ignorant, and insensitive she is now proven to be! It is a fact that African American male boys are the least adopted children in America. I feel the Romney's are extremely more in touch with the real social issues plaguing this country than anyone gives them credit for. Its a beautiful thing they have done and should be applauded not ridiculed. I hate how they allow stupid people on tv to spread ignorance. smdh

  • Bye Bye MSNBC

Too little, too late from another lazy, arrogant journalist.

  • Arlan Godthaab

Thank you, Melissa, for showing America what a sincere and substantive apology looks and sounds like. You are a MUCH greater person in my eyes because of it. I'm grateful to you for starting my new year off on a note of authentic humanity and renewed hope. Bless you, sincerely.

  • K Dizzle

    Was that a anchorwoman?

  • Cloyd Brock

she still needs to be fired, just like the rest!!!

  • don warremn

This is one the craziest thing I've have ever heard. Fox(cartoon network), get away with murder. Specially that crazy non talking Palin, Beck, and the rest of the nut case team. Nothing happen to these people. CNBC you have no balls…a bunch of cowards, say the least.

  • Edward

    Melissa Harris-Perry

  • Edward

Melissa Harris-Perry show just needs to be unplugged now! The outcry from the public is telling you MSNBC to do it now.

    • Michael English

You must feel the same about Phil Robertson then. And Bill O'Reilly.

  • lorelei

I find it interesting that Melissa is crying when she has to apologize to the Romney's for making racist bigoted intolerant comments – but it is perfectly acceptable for her to spew her hatred views and that………. is a shining example of journalism at it's finest, right? See Melissa, racism and bigotry is a double edged sword – it cuts both ways – you might remember that the next time you choose to say something STUPID!

    • Michael English

Did you actually watch the original clip? She never said anything remotely racist. Two comedians on her panel did. Please have your facts together before typing.

      • lorelei

To your point – while she didn't “say anything racist” she certainly inferred it. Here's the Inferring definition = to judge, to speculate, to imply, to draw a conclusion…………………..so if her comments weren't intended to be interpreted that way, why say them at all??

  • gloriaj

She should have been fired, period. Someone should have told media about the family rule when Sara Palin was running for vp

  • djsnatural

Never attack the kids!!!! what an Idiot !

  • tommy2sweet

What else would you expect from MSNBC and its [NO] talent hosts. Clearly, she has no affinity for the half of her bi-racial gene pool that pays her!

  • Cynthia Hill

I don't believe her tearful act for a minute. There is nothing remarkable about this girl. She needs to be fired and forgotten.

  • SAFrancis

She needs to be fired.. you would think a woman of color.. such as herself.. would know better…. She's O U T !!

  • MojoMan713

She insisted that Paula Deen be fired for her racially oriented remarks, no?

    Well…..

    • Michael English

Please list what “racially oriented remarks” MH-P said? You can't, she didn't.

  • olivia pressman

She certainly deserves to be fired!

  • Koi

If Megyn Y didn't have to apologize for what she said Melissa Harris-Perry shouldn't have needed to either.

  • Koi

    Obviously, I meant Megyn Kelly.

  • azwi

I don't feel that she owed Willard an apology what so ever

  • pistolpackin grandma

More show hosts that should be ashamed of themselves. What's with this. They open their mouths and say OUTRAGEOUS THINGS but it is out there and can't be taken back or made right with an I'M SORRY. which no one believes anyway.

  • pistolpackin grandma

Those of you who think that Fox is a hate network are blind to the problems that YOU and others have like you have created. Obama IS NOT NOW AND NEVER WAS QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB OF PRESIDENT AND NEVER WILL BE AND WILL GO DOWN AS THE WORST PRESIDENT WE HAVE OR WILL EVER HAVE.. And most of you can't deny that you voted for him because you wanted something for free WITH OUT WORKING FOR IT LIKE THE REST OF US HAVE TO DO.

  • Winston7ok

Up next…Perry and the comedians mock and ridicule those who lisp and have problems enunciating words!

  • todd

Another example of the double standard! Where is Jesse Jackson and Al sharpton at on this issue? They had no problem calling for the head of the Duck Dynasty cast when Phil made his comments, why aren't they all over this? Hmmmm, I wonder why? AlecBaldwin lost his show that aired on the same network, but, funny, I see that Harris still has her show! Why is that? I think its obvious!

  • StandAgainstGenocide

“Racist” is just a Hate word used to attack Whites. And Whites only.

  • Michael

It's amazing. You can't look at a beautiful baby happy with the family photo without someone trying to criticize it. Thanks Melissa. Anything for ratings. Disgusting.

  • Bobby S

Mitt Romney is a monster who doesn't deserve an apology. This is the billionaire robot who thinks Corporations Are People and the 99% are garbage to be disposed of for profit. Romney truly is a Mormon hypocrite who may love his black grandchild but thinks blacks are as subhuman as Duck Dynasty rednecks. We are witnessing the end of civilization when a monster like Mitt Romney's hypocrisy cannot be questioned.

  • max lail

    F. U. bitch Harris, Perry I have a beautiful interracial (or by racial) if you rather hear it that way. 14 year old grand daughter. I would do anything to protect her. she didn't ask to be here, nor did her mother do anything to get her. thank god her daddy is in hell, but her life is deeply in my heart. How dare you make fun of her or any one because of their color….

  • turnermargaret75

turnermargaret75: Dear Miss Perry, it is so many times what we say, before we think about what has been said that gets us in the most “trouble. Then the “words” have been said and we have to take the next step and apologize for what was said. Thank you so much for taking the step for your “Career” and making the apology. We as a Culture being “African American” are so many times put in the position of “not being good enough?” So we have children that are being “Adopted” by other Cultures and then we suffer as a “Culture” because the identification of the Children are all intertwined in what other's see. We were all probably thinking the “Words” that you said, but because we are not on television our “Words” go unheard. You as a young Woman are going to be hearing the ramifications of the “Words” you used for a long time, but do not ever forget “Who's Child you are?” If you answered “GOD's” then this will soon pass and your Career will continue to be the “Best” ever in your life. We make “Mistakes” and being in the “World” they will only see your “mistakes” but we as a “Culture” we are more than that. We make our mark on the “World” by remembering this is a temporary place, and what really matters in your life is “What GOD” thinks of you. The Mormon community has not always been favorable to us as a “Culture” or the “Government” would not of “sold” our “Ancestrial” records to that “Church” community so long ago. But what we have to remember is what happens behind closed doors? Where only “GOD” will see and take care of baby Kieran, if the Romney family or any other family that “Adopts” a child of a different “Cultural” background has to remember is that if your intentions are not “Right” then you will have to pay for your actions against the “Innocent.” What can be more innocent than a “Child” put into the care of those who will not and cannot truly “Love” them. Take care Miss Perry and I will send a “Prayer” to “GOD” on your behalf and also Happy New Year.

  • Michael English

There is so much hatred being thrown towards M H-P on here. I want to know what you think she SAID that is deserving of that? That the baby was “gorgeous”? That in 2040 it would be great if a grown up Kieran married North West? Or did anyone actually watch the clip?

  • lilnobe

She needs to be FIRED! So disgusting!

  • Streight up

So they kill the sound, so you have to read the CC.
She should have been fired on the spot. Her
racial diversity is probably what landed her the inteligence, for what it is worth, to have this job……….No wait this MSNBC you don't have to be inteligent to get a job there!

  • Streight up

    What I a Moron!

  • disqus_YsXeLSJpEd

For some reason MSNBC has this unusual sense of duty to always be politcally correct and if you fail to follow through, you get ousted or become this raging fool of unending apologies. First off, three people maybe 4 watch your show because you suck royally as a news anchor and second, who cares about the jokes, republicans do this crap all the time.

She and the rest of that sorry line up is the reason I gave up cable news altogether, with Keith gone, Ed in a time slot that's too damned early for me, the Indian guy gone, I'm done with Msnbc.

  • Scott McGinn

why did she say that stuff? Probably jealous of the attention the child was getting.

  • ibisdoc

Totally fake. Anyone with half a brain realizes how phony that was. These liberals usually just get some Hollywood simpleton to teach them to tear up on camera.

  • American ex-Pat

This half-breed talking head is about as sincere as the current White House resident when he gives a speech and professes his love of America.
Fire the bee-youch, she stepped way over the line!

  • SamyyCiao

Fake Tears – your not foolling anyone you racist – she needs to be fired immediately!

  • rodney007

Can this woman be considered a “reporter” of anything and serve any purpose other than as a representative of how far you get near the bottom of the barrel in masquerading as a “journalist”? What a dimwitted drone. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and their barnyard animal antics would be a curse on anyone's family tree and her conjecture about inclusion of them in a family laughable. Harris-Perry's apologea sounds like a weak excuse for insulting remarks.

  • Chase Sequence

These are terrible times when the GOP media machine has the power to flog, fire and humiliate journalists for speaking their minds. The first amendment was supposed to protect journalists as the voice of the people — to speak truth to power. Satire is protected as fair comment. Now that giant corporations own our news organizations (and the republican congress), we no longer have freedom of the press in American. Cry aloud, America. “Cry aloud and spare not. Lift up thy voices like a trumpet!”

  • susan

first off perry never really apologized to romney, she still managed to show her disdain for him but apologized to anyone ‘else’ in a mixed race home. it still amazes me that she was adopted by a white family herself & she resorted to this smallmindedness. i notice the left does this with regularity, they name call & make fun of people because they disagree with their politics. (ie. dems calling black repubs uncle toms?????? really??? who is really racist here??!! & dems making fun of repub. michele bachmann's looks???) its so childish & puts me off. btw, i'm an independent & am disgusted with both repubs & dems. most of them are corrupt.

  • humpajumpa

…dicing onions just prior to the
    phony apology

  • coastallady01

it's not his ranch lame-brain….it's rick perry's…get your facts straight.
