’90 Day Fiance’ Sneak Peek Teases Vaguely Racist Citizenship Showdown (Exclusive Video)

New episode of TLC reality series airs Sunday

In a new preview of Sunday’s episode of TLC reality series “90 Day Fiance,” Melanie’s Jamaican fiancé Devar must face her conservative sister and prove that his intentions are pure.

The family sits down for a meal together, and Melanie’s sister doesn’t waste time beating around the bush, jumping right into questioning Devar’s motives for moving to America.

“So from what I’ve heard, a lot of people in Jamaica want to come over here. And everyone wants to live the American Dream, so to speak,” she says.

When Devar shuts her down by telling her not to “judge a book by its cover,” i.e. don’t insinuate that all Jamaicans are simply looking for an American to exploit as a ticket to the U.S., she pivots to a new angle, targeting his history as a lifeguard at a Jamaican resort.

“You met her at a resort,” she says, “so how many others have you met like her?”

“90 Day Fiancé” follows the journeys of international engaged couples who unite in America under a special U.S. visa, but it comes with a ticking clock: they have three months to get married, or the foreign fiancé will have to leave the country.

“90 Day Fiancé” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on TLC.
