Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Gravity,’ Lady Diana Biopic Net Gala Spots at Zurich Film Festival

Atom Egoyan's West Memphis 3 film and Roger Michell's "Le Weekend" will also screen

Alfonso Cuaron‘s space tale “Gravity,” J.C. Chandor’s “All Is Lost” and Atom Egoyan’s “Devil’s Knot” will all have gala premieres at the Zurich Film Festival, set for a ninth run from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6.

Cuaron’s “Gravity,” which stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, the tale of two astronauts stranded in space. Cuaron’s first movie since “Children of Men,” it is also playing at festivals in both Venice and Toronto.

“Devil’s Knot” is Egoyan’s take on the West Memphis 3 starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon, while “All is Lost” marks Chandor’s follow-up to the well-received “Margin Call.”

Zurich also selected Oliver Hirschbiegel’s “Diana,” Roger Michell’s “Le Weekend,” Jonathan Teplitzky’s “The Railway Man” and David Gordon Green’s “Joe” for gala premieres.

All of those films feature premiere acting talent. “Diana” is a biopic of the deceased British icon starring Naomi Watts; “Le Weekend” is a comedy starring Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan; “The Railway Man” is the tale of a Scottish officer (Coin Firth) who survives a prison camp and later returns with his wife (Nicole Kidman); and “Joe” is the redemption tale of an ex-con (Nicolas Cage).

“World War Z” director Marc Forster will lead the festival’s international feature film jury.
