Comedy Central has set comedy special “Fake News With Ted Nelms,” starring Ed Helms, a person close to the project told TheWrap.

Helms will play the fake cable news broadcaster Ted Nelms and will executive produce with Mike Falbo through their Pacific Electric Picture Company banner. Former “Daily Show” producer Stu Miller will also serve as an executive producer.

The special will parody the current “fake news” phenomenon in our turbulent political climate, and see Helms reading absurd news items in s deadpan fashion, parodying CNN or Fox News.

This is the second time Comedy Central has directly addressed current events in its programming this year, following its new series “The President Show,” featuring a Trump impersonator. That show has been renewed for a second season.

An alum of “The Office” and “The Daily Show,” Helms most recently guest-starred on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Bojack Horseman” and starred in the latest “Vacation” reboot. He is represented by Principato-Young and UTA.
