Chris Cornell’s Facebook page has become the home of tributes to the late singer since his death last month, and on Monday the page posted two letters from the musician’s 12- and 17-year-old daughters.
In honor of Father’s Day, Cornell’s daughters Lillian Jean and Toni shared letters written to their father expressing their grief and promising to uphold his legacy. Cornell’s wife Vicky shared her own message on Sunday calling him “the most amazing daddy ever.” All three posts were accompanied by collages of family photos.
“Daddy, Let me start by saying how much I love you and how much you mean to me,” wrote Cornell’s youngest daughter Toni. “You are my idol, someone I’ve always looked up to. You were always there for me. You pushed me forward every day, and you still do.”
“Whenever I cry or feel like there’s no way I can go on, I hear your voice, ‘Don’t sit worrying peanut. Worry is a waste of time, I’m ok,’” she continued. “I always took what you said to heart. Probably because everything you said was so smart.”
“I want to live my life to help others as you did,” wrote Lillian in her own lengthy message. “I want to continue to make you proud. Toni, C and I promise to survive, persevere and thrive, as we’ve always done. I’m so proud to be your baby, I love you more than words can say and I will miss you forever.”
Cornell, the frontman for rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, died at 52 from suicide by hanging last month. He took his life in his Detroit hotel room following a concert while on tour with Soundgarden.
