‘Breaking Dawn — Part 2’ Gets Nov. 16, 2012, Date

In two years, Summit will be forced to say good bye to its major cash cow

Good news for Summit: The studio will be able to keep new installments to it lucrative vampire franchise hitting theaters through 2012.

The final film in the series, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” will open in theatres on Nov. 16, 2012, the studio announced on Tuesday.

Summit previously revealed that “Breaking Dawn — Part 1” will be released on November 18, 2011.

There’s a downside though. “Twi-hards” are almost certain to keep the studio’s coffers filled through the next two years and into 2013, when “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” hits DVD and Blu-ray, but Summit has not found a lucrative new franchise to replace “Twilight” yet.

It may have made a splash with the best-picture winning “The Hurt Locker” last year, but the lion’s share of the over $400 million Summit made in 2009 was generated by “New Moon.” This coming year appears to be no different. “Eclipse” has brought in $645 million worldwide, but it’s other big films this year, “Letters to Juliet” and “Remember Me,” were at best modest successes.

“Breaking Dawn's" release date may be bittersweet for “Twilight” fans, who will undoubtedly be sad to say goodbye to Edward and Bella … but it could be downright tragic for the gang at Summit.

Reboot, anyone?
