Discovery & Hasbro Bringing Clue to TV

New network Hub will feature shows based on toys such as My Little Pony and G.I. Joe

The Hub will produce an original, half hour series based on the board game Clue, the fledgling network announced at the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Wednesday.

The new network represents a partnership between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, the toymaker that owns the rights to the popular game. The series will be different from the eighties mystery film with Tim Curry and Christopher Lloyd in one important respect — it will center on a youthful, ensemble cast who the network says will work together to uncover clues and unravel mysteries. Sounds like the murder element that is central to the board game may be whitewashed.

The new network launches October 10 and will be available in 60 million U.S. households The network also announced that it had tapped a series of "name" television actors for its upcoming slate of original series. Among the actors appearing in Hub programs will be Dave Foley, Meredith Baxter, and Lee Majors. Like "Clue," many of the programs are based on toys made by Hasbro such as G.I. Joe and My Little Pony.

Supplementing its slate of original programming, The Hub has acquired rights to air the family shows "Doogie, M.D." and "The Wonder Years." It will also air reruns of the animated shows "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero."
