Doug Liman to Direct ‘All You Need Is Kill’ for Warner Bros.

Dante Harper adapted Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s 2004 time-travel novel on spec earlier this year

Doug Liman will direct Warner Bros.' action-packed time-travel drama "All You Need Is Kill," Liman's representation at CAA has confirmed to TheWrap.

The studio acquired Dante Harper's adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's 2004 novel in a seven-figure spec deal earlier this year, and while Variety was first to report that Liman's deal has officially closed, Deal Central previously confirmed reports that Liman was circling the project back in June.

The story follows a young soldier who is pressed into battle against a superior alien species, gets killed in action, and finds himself caught in a time loop in which he's forced to relive his last day alive over and over. Eventually, he becomes a better warrior as he attempts to change his fate.

3 Arts Entertainment's Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally will produce with Jason Hoffs, while Hidemi Fukuhara will exec produce. Jon Berg will oversee the project for the studio.

Sam Raimi met with Warners on "Kill" before committing to Disney's "Wizard of Oz" prequel, and Liman won the coveted gig once WB decided to put his "Three Musketeers" adaptation on hold after Germany's Constantin began production on an unrelated 3D version of Alexandre Dumas' classic tale.

Summit will release Liman's "Fair Game" on Nov. 5. Liman remains attached to direct the indie drama "Attica" from a script by Oscar winner Geoffrey Fletcher ("Precious").
