Mark your award season calendars: Film Independent announced Wednesday its Spirit Awards will be handed out Feb. 26, 2011.
The date marks a return to Saturday for the event. Last year, organizers moved the gala to Friday night for the first time. The exact time and location are yet to be announced.
In its 26th year, the Spirit Awards honor films by filmmakers "who embody independence and originality," organizers said in a statement. Award categories include best feature, best first feature, best director, various acting categories, and the John Cassavetes Award given to films made with a budget under $500,000.
Awards submissions are being accepted through Oct. 5.
