Spike Lee Directing Webcast of John Legend, Roots Concert

“Do the Right Thing” director will oversee live stream of Sept. 23 show in NYC

Spike Lee is embracing his new media mojo.

The “Do the Right Thing” director will direct a live web stream of a concert featuring John Legend and The Roots on Sept. 23. This marks the second in the American Express sponsored “Unstaged” concert series.

Lee will capture all the action from a Terminal 5 show in New York.

''It's not necessarily a Spike Lee joint,'' Lee told the Associated Press. ''It's a John Legend and the Roots joint.''

Lee is not the only big name director brought on board for the year-long web-based concert series. Terry Gilliam (“Brazil,” “The Fisher King”) directed the inaugural show in July featuring Arcade Fire performing at Madison Square Garden.

The performance will stream over YouTube starting at 9:00 PM/ET and is scheduled to coincide with the Sept. 21 release of Legend and the Roots album “Wake Up!”
