ABC Greenlights Mark Burnett’s ‘Expedition Impossible’

New reality-competition series will feature teams of three “solving problems while racing across deserts, over mountains and through rivers

Over the river and through the woods … to Mark Burnett's new reality-competition series we go.

On Thursday, ABC announced the greenlighting of "Expedition Impossible," the latest from the prolific "Survivor" producer.

The network said casting is under way for the hourlong show, which will have teams of three "solve problems while racing across deserts, over mountains and through rivers."

Each episode will feature one leg of the 10-stage race, which was described as "equal parts extreme competition, teamwork and strategy, featuring unique landscapes and different cultures," in a joint statement from John Sadde and Vicki Dummer, senior VPs of alternative series, specials and late night for ABC Entertainment Group.

Added Burnett: "I love high-adventure television, and I am so excited to be working with ABC in bringing an epic 'Indiana Jones'-sytel experience to viewers."
