Publisher Eddy Hartenstein promises one for second half, among other digital initiatives
Buried near the bottom of a long year-end note to readers, Los Angeles Times publisher Eddy Hartenstein outlined some of the paper’s vague digital plans for 2011, including various apps and, it appears, the launch of a tablet version.
Via Hartenstein’s note:
Looking forward, I'm even more excited that 2011 will be the year we kick our digital initiatives into overdrive. In the weeks to come, look for a new Android app and, shortly thereafter, an iPad app to join the iPhone apps we launched last summer, all designed to help bring the news of Southern California and the world to you whenever and wherever you need it. And during the second half of next year, expect to see us roll out our very own tablet reader.
I asked the Times for clarification, and to elaborate at least a little bit on what Hartenstein means by “our very own tablet reader.” A spokesperson for the paper declined, saying only, “We'll elaborate further down the line.”
