’30 Rock’ Tops Nominees for Comedy Central’s New Comedy Awards

NBC sitcom gets seven nominations; “Easy A” gets four; “Conan” snubbed in late night category

Comedy Central announced nominees for its inaugural Comedy Awards on Tuesday. NBC’s “30 Rock” leads the television category with seven nominations, followed by “The Office” and “Modern Family” with four nominations apiece.

In the film category, “Easy A,” “Cyrus” and “Kick-Ass” each nabbed four nominations.

The show will be taped at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on March 26 and will air April 10 on Comedy Central and simultaneously on MTV-owned channels Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick At Nite.

Nominees were selected by a board of directors that included Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Adam McKay and Conan O'Brien. It's worth noting that in the late night comedy series category, O'Brien's "Conan" was not nominated — while "The Late Show With David Letterman," "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," "Daily Show," Colbert Report," and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" were.

Winners will be chosen by an Academy-like voting body comprised of 1,000 comedy professionals, the network said.
