“Late Show” host belts out a tune in ill-fated video for CBS’ advertisers upfront
Sardonic shots at his network masters aside, David Letterman isn't above doing a little corporate toadying. Especially during upfronts season.
On Wednesday's "Late Show," Letterman aired a clip that was purportedly commissioned by CBS bigwig Les Moonves for the network's upfront presentation to advertisers this week. According to the late-night host, Moonves asked Letterman to belt out a tune for the potential sponsors out of desperation six weeks ago, because "this was in the middle of the Charlie Sheen thing," when Sheen "was like an atomic bomb in a pinball machine."
Alas; Moonves put the kibosh on the plan, but thankfully it's all been captured on videotape for posterity.
Watch Letterman, along with pal Steve Martin and longstanding musical director Paul Shaffer. sing for his supper in the video below.
