Liberty Media Makes $1 Billion Offer for Barnes & Noble

Struggling bookseller would join Starz and QVC, among other Liberty holdings

Barnes & Noble might be struggling to stay afloat in this increasingly digital age, but at least one person sees value in the troubled booksellers: John C. Malone.

Malone's Liberty Media has offered to buy Barnes & Noble for $1.02 billion dollars, the bookseller announced on Thursday. Liberty — which holds interest in the Atlanta Braves, Starz and QVC — has offered Barnes & Noble $17 per share to acquire the company.

Barnes & Noble put itself up for sale in August 2010. It currently has more than 700 locations, as well as a number of stores on college campuses.

Barnes & Noble's board of directors is currently evaluating Liberty's offer.
