Lasse Hallstrom is adapting another Nicholas Sparks novel — "Safe Haven" — for Relativity Media, the studio announced Thursday.
He directed 2010's "Dear John," also based on a Sparks novel, and has directed a raft of adaptations, including the 1985 "My Life as a Dog," the 1999 "The Cider House Rules," the 2001 "The Shipping News" and the 2000 "Chocolat."
And Sparks's novels have been adapted quite a few times. In addition to "Dear John," he wrote "The Notebook," "The Last Song" and "Nights in Rodanthe."
"Safe Haven" is a love story about a young woman who runs to a small town in North Carolina to start a new life. There, she falls for a widower who, according to Relativity, "helps her escape the danger that threatens her."
The movie is set to go into production this year.
Relativity's CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh, is producing, as is Sparks and Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.
Dana Stevens wrote the screenplay.
