Screen Gems’ movie about break dancers also stars Laz Alonso, Josh Peck and Caity Lotz

Singer Chris Brown is starring with "Lost" actor Josh Holloway in "Planet B Boy," Screen Gems announced Wednesday.

The film is based on Benson Lee's 2007 documentary about breakdancing.

Lee is also directing the Screen Gems movie, about an all-star American breakdancing crew training to compete at the Battle of the Year International Championships in France. "After a decade of defeat, the crew and their coach must go up against the best and greatest b-boys in the world," according to a Screen Gems statement.

The documentary looked at the history of breakdancing and how it was adapted in urban cultures around the world.

Brin Hill and Chris Parker wrote the feature's script. Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Amy Lo are producing the movie, which already started production in Los Angeles and will soon begin shooting in Montpellier, France.

Hill also wrote "Learning to Fly" and "Ball Don't Lie." Parker has written "Mules," "Never Forget" and "Wolf Boy."

In 2009, Brown (above) was charged with felony assault for beating his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, before the Grammys. He later was sentenced to five years probation, one year of domestic violence counseling and six months of community service.

His acting roles include the 2010 "Takers" and the 2007 "Stomp the Yard."

Holloway (above, right) stars in the upcoming "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" and played  James "Sawyer" Ford on the television series "Lost."
