Nicki Minaj set out to push buttons during her Grammy Awards performance Sunday, and she succeeded.
Whether she turned in a good performance is up for debate — many a critic was annoyed by her exorcism-themed multimedia number, which found the rapper freaking out in a confession booth, shackled against a backdrop of stained-glass windows, and eventually, levitating over robed and hooded singers and dancers. She arrived at the ceremony accompanied by a man dressed as the Pope.
Cue humorless outrage.
To cap it off, M.I.A. came out at the end and flipped everyone off with both fingers. (Okay, this last part didn't happen.)
