Party Report: Melissa McCarthy Stays Mum, Sharing a Sunday with Steven Tyler

Vocal rest for Melissa McCarthy, no such thing for Kurt Sutter and a too-young-to-drive Disney star goes for hot cars. The week on the party circuit.

Disney’s “Shake It Up” star Zendaya is not street legal to drive yet (she’s 15), but she’s thinking ahead. She came right from the set to Thursday’s opening of the Audi Beverly Hills dealership in Beverly Hills, posing with Matt LeBlanc. The shiny opening spread out over both sides of Wilshire Boulevard.

Former Yankees and Dodgers manager Joe Torre was also on the scene. This is an unusual March with Torre not hunkered down in spring training.

A week before a 26.2 mile stretch of the city is shut down for the LA Marathon, John Varvatos shut down the part of Melrose by Robertson on Sunday for the ninth annual Stuart House Benefit, an industry-heavy afternoon with Dave Matthews playing “One Sweet World” and “Crush” within his solo set.  Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow hosted the gathering, which netted $700,000 for UCLA’s Rape Treatment Center for sexually abused children.

Industry support came from NBC, WME, UTA, HBO, and hosts Skip Brittenham and Bradley Bell. Steven Tyler let it be known he was making more than an “appearance.”

“One of the big reasons I wanted to come and support John today is because he touched a chord that I also held dear to my heart when I wrote ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’,” he said.

Live from Austin, it’s SXSW interactive: "What's so cool is we've seen interactive evolve from just the tech community to encompassing everything from music to film and beyond,” Forest Whitaker said on Saturday.

“The popularity of SXSW this year is a sign of the growing convergence between tech and Hollywood.” Whitaker appeared with Shira Lazar, host and founder of “What’sTrending.com”.

Andy Cohen and Meghan McCain were also on stage at the Samsung Blogger Lounge (at left, with Lazar), and Morgan Spurlock and Robert Rodriguez were expected later in the conference.

Good thing she’s not on “Idol." After being placed on “vocal rest”, Melissa McCarthy wrote out her answers during a panel on “Mike & Molly” at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Co-star Billy Gardell and Executive Producer Don Foster helped give McCarthy a voice, reading her penmanship aloud.

“New Girl” Creator/Executive Produer Liz Meriwether and lead Zooey Deschanel hit Paleyfest 2012.  The Fox show took over a slot as the Paley Center for Media hosted and toasted the tops of this season’s TV.

She’s front and center on the “Mirror Mirror” one-sheets, and front and center on the cover of this month’s Nylon magazine.  Lily Collins ramped up her promotional tour for the March 30 release with a Scarpetta dinner party in Beverly Hills.
