Justin Bieber will win an award and "Game of Thrones" will have its multi-platform rollout dissected at the 11th Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, TFF organizers announced this week.
The announcements of Tribeca's Disruptive Innovation Awards and its Interactive Day programming take the film festival into a variety of non-film areas, celebrating and showcasing books, social media, music, television, news and online humor.
The Tribeca Film Institute's annual Interactive Day will take place on Monday, April 23. Designed as a day to explore what TFF calls "the digital media ecosystem," it will feature a keynote address from Baratunde Thurston, director of digital for The Onion, and an interactive case study in the transmedia rollout of HBO's series "Game of Thrones" (left).

Also on the Interactive Day agenda, which can be found in full on the Tribeca Film website: a news panel featuring representatives from the Ford Foundation, the New York Times and the Guardian; an address by Clay Johnson, whose Blue State Digital ran President Obama's 2008 online campaign; and panels on funding interactive content, designing multi-screen experiences and using interactive programming in education.
Tribeca's third annual Disruptive Innovation Awards will take place on Friday, April 27 and will be hosted by the NYU Stern School of Business.
The awards, which are designed "to highlight successful disruptive innovation in non-traditional, identity-based domains," will include Lifetime Achievement Awards to Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter and Square, and John Wood, the founder of Room to Read.
Among the nearly three dozen other honorees are writer-director-actor Ed Burns, director and Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain, and U.S. State Department senior advisor for innovation Alec Ross.
Justin Bieber, who the TFF press release identifies as "Global Superstar," will receive an award with his manager, Scooter Braun, for the YouTube discovery and phenomenal success of a career that TFF says "disrupted the traditional gatekeepers of the music industry."
(And yes, fans, Bieber is expected to appear to collect his award.)

Other music-related honorees include Rick Rubin, the founder of Def Jam Records; and jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and designer Linda Manzer, who together created the innovative 42-string guitar known as Pikasso.
Daniel Kahnehman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow" will receive the Book of the Year award at the ceremony.
The full list of winners of the award, which is nicknamed "Maslow's Silver Hammer" in honor of psychologist Abe Maslow, is available at the Tribeca website.
TFF also announced that its Future of Film blog will sponsor a series of four lunchtime talks during the festival, beginning on April 23 and ending on April 26. Conversations will take place with "18 Days in Egypt" director Jigar Mehta, "Paranormal Activity" producer Jason Blum, Tumblr founder David Karp and College Humor founder Ricky Van Veen, among others.
The Tribeca Film Festival begins on April 18 and runs through April 29 in Lower Manhattan.
