Yahoo Unveils New Shows From Jeff Goldblum, ‘Rock of Ages’ Creators

Yahoo has launched a third slate of original programming, this one focused on men

Yahoo unveiled a third slate of original video programming at its NewFront presentation on Wednesday, this time targeting men with shows from Jeff Goldblum and Sal Masekela.

This group of shows will cover topics like sports, fashion and relationships. Goldblum is developing a talk show while Masakela, a fixture during the X Games, will host “Stunt Nation.” Both will debut in July.

Yahoo will also launch four other shows as part of the slate, one a men’s guide, two relating to sports and a fourth to demolition.

“The media and advertising industries are at a watershed comment, and no one is more poised to take advantage of the shift toward digital content than Yahoo,” Ross Levinson, the company’s EVP and head of Global Media, said in a statement. “We’re partnering with industry leaders and top Hollywood talent, creating unique, premium experiences for distinct audiences around the world.”

In addition to its male-oriented programming, Yahoo announced a “musical ‘jukebox’ comedy” from “Rock of Ages” creators Matthew Weaver and Chris D’Arienzo tentatively titled “Dancing With Myself.” It also made the news of Katie Couric’s new weekly talk show official.

Yahoo, which has made a major push into original video content, already launched a group of shows targeting women and another focused on comedy.

Above all, Yahoo, stil struggling as a larger company, tried to crystallize its sterling position in the online video arena, pointing to already announced shows like “Electric City” from Tom Hanks and “Cybergeddon” from “CSI” creator Anthony Zuiker.
