BBC Worldwide and the National Geographic have gone "Wild" for each other.
The two are teaming up for a six-part nature series which will air on BBC One and National Geographic's Nat Geo WILD channel. The miniseries, which will be called "Planet Earth Live" in Britain and "24/7 Wild" in the United States will run exclusively in the U.S. on Nat Geo WILD, beginning May 7. (The program will also run on BBC One next month; Nat GEO WILD airings will play live to tape shortly after the international premieres.)
Employing more than 150 filmmakers and wildlife experts around the world, the expansive project will "showcase real animals and their everyday fight for survival — as it happens, in real time," according to the BBC and National Geographic. Episodes will include segments on the African plains, Sri Lanka and the deep woods of Minnesota, with Richard Hammond of "Top Gear" anchoring live from Africa and British presenter Julia Bradbury of "Countryfile" handling duties in North America.
Nat Geo WILD senior vice president Geoff Daniels called the project "the largest and most adventurous event Nat Geo WILD has been a part of since its launch just over two years ago.
