‘Newsies’ Star Jeremy Jordan Joins ‘Smash’ Cast

Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan will play a Brooklyn singer with a knack for self-destruction

NBC's "Smash" has begun to re-fortify its cast, after shedding several members in recent weeks.

Broadway star Jeremy Jordan has joined the cast of the series for its upcoming sophomore run, TheWrap has confirmed.

Jordan will play a singer from Brooklyn with a tendency toward self-destruction.

The singer/actor was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for his work in "Newsies" this year, but was beaten out by "Once"'s Steve Kazee.

Since wrapping its maiden season, "Smash" has been in a state of  upheaval, starting with the departure of creator/showrunner Theresa Rebeck. Following Rebeck's exit, cast members Raza Jaffery, Jaime Cepero, Brian d'Arcy James and Will Chase left the series.

Rebeck has been replaced as the series' showrunner by "Gossip Girl" showrunner Josh Safran.
