Jon Thurber of L.A. Times Joins TheWrap as Senior Editor

Good news: Jon Thurber joins TheWrap as our newsroom continues to grow

I’m delighted to announce that Jon Thurber, a longtime editor at The Los Angeles Times, joins jon thurberTheWrap next week as a Senior Editor.

In his new position, Jon will guide long-term coverage, oversee our award-winning original reporting, expand into new areas and increase traffic and user engagement.

He joins a rapidly-growing team of seasoned editors at TheWrap, including Executive Editor Lisa Fung and Managing Editor Lew Harris, along with the most talented young team of reporters covering the entertainment industry.

We feel extremely fortunate: Jon brings a career’s worth of knowledge, editing experience and news judgment to the newsroom.

At the Times, Jon held a variety of positions including the masthead post of managing editor, print and worked on a number of strategic initiatives.

Most recently, he has served as books editor, a position he held since 2010.

Jon’s professional accomplishments are a textbook study of American newspaper journalism at its best. He started as a clerk on the foreign desk, where he also worked as a copy editor and news editor.

Through the '90s he was in charge of the news desk, copy desk and production for the Calendar section and, eventually, for all of the feature sections.

As obituaries editor for more than a decade, he helped build the Times coverage into some of the best in the country. Most recently, he was the Times book editor shaping the daily and Sunday coverage as well as developing special coverage for holiday books and summer reading.

We welcome him to TheWrap!

Onward and upward,

Sharon
