As Coachella organizers ponder whether to stay in Indio, Calif., plans to launch the party at sea are announced
The Coachella Festival is taking its show on the road — or, rather, out to sea.
The music festival is expanding to present a sea cruise, dubbed the S.S. Coachella, that will include more than 20 musical acts such as Pulp, Hot Chip, Grimes, !!!, Rapture and Girl Talk.
The cruise will hit the Bahamas on Dec. 16-19 before heading to Jamaica for a separate Dec. 19-23 jaunt.
The festival at sea will be held above the Celebrity Silhouette, a 1,047-foot cruise ship with a capacity of just under 3,000.
Amenities aboard the craft include 12 dining venues, nine bars, multiple live music settings, spa and a pool deck.
Other artists who'll perform on the cruise include James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, who'll perform a DJ set, Rapture and Black Lips.
Tickets for the cruise start at about $500 per person, for those willing to sleep four to a cabin, ranging up to $1,500.
Festival organizers may want to consider this as an option for future Coachella festivals. As reported earlier this month, Goldenvoice — which promotes the annual festival — has threatened to pull out of its Indio, Calif. location after a City Councilman proposed a ticket tax that would drive prices up.
