Wall Street Journal to Launch WorldStream Video Blog

Wall Street Journal reporters will submit clips to the video channel

The Wall Street Journal will launch a new video site this month, featuring clips from the paper's reporters.

The once ink-stained journalists, now equipped with iPhones, are expected to shoot and upload clips of up to 45 seconds directly to the new WSJ WorldStream site, where an editor will review and post them.

Once added to the stream, reporters will use the blog like a video database, embedding clips into stories, using them on live shows, packages and for viewers' perusal on the actual site.

"As you know, video is becoming an increasingly important part of our journalism," online editor Alan Murray said in a staff memo obtained by blogger Jim Romenesko Monday morning. "Our video viewership has more than doubled in the last six months, as WSJ Live programming has spread across new channels — including the WSJ Live iPad app, Apple TV, YouTube, Hulu, Roku and more than 20 others."

The Journal's WSJ Live site launched in September 2011 in what many saw as the first major push by a newspaper website to feature live video content.

Murray, who once anchored a show on CNBC, has led the operation, which was reportedly attracting seven million viewers by the end of last year.
