“Resident Evil: Retribution” ruled the overseas box office, taking in $37.2 million from 74 territories in its second week of release.
Universal’s “Ted’ crossed another milestone, adding $9.3 million from 44 overseas markets to raise its overall foreign total to $202 million and its worldwide gross to $420.6 million. The same studio's "Bourne Legacy" took in $8.8 million from 56 markets on its way to hitting $102 million overseas.
Warner Bros.' "Dark Knight Rises" raised its overall worldwide gross to $1.066 billion and moved into the No. 7 spot on the all-time list, ahead of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man's Chest," after bringing in $3.8 million from 63 markets.
Sony Screen Gems' "Resident Evil" franchise has typically performed better abroad than domestically, and this film will continue that pattern. Its overall worldwide gross now stands at $136.8 million, and more than $103 million of that has come from overseas markets, according to box office tracking service Rentrak.
An estimated $11.6 million was collected this weekend across Asia, where it was No. 1 in 7 markets. In Japan, it took in $6.2 million in its second week, upping its gross there to $28 million.

Sony’s “Retribution” is the fifth film in the franchise based on the Capcom survival horror video game series “Resident Evil.” Milla Jovovich returns as Alice to continue her kick-butt fight against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead in “Retribution."
The series has been a moneymaker for Screen Gems, bringing in roughly $800 million since the first film debuted a decade ago. The vast majority of those sales– around 70 percent — has come from overseas markets.
