Outcry Over Ryan Gosling’s Sexiest Man Alive Snub Significantly Subdued This Year

Channing Tatum — not Ryan Gosling — was named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, but the internet isn't nearly as mad about it this year

If people were pissed when Bradley Cooper was named Sexiest Man Alive instead of Ryan Gosling in 2011, you'd think they would be doubly pissed that the "Drive" star was once again snubbed in 2012.  However, if Twitter, Facebook and the lack of protests outside of the publication's New York City office are any indication, that's not the case.

Getty ImagesIn fact, the majority of those flocking to social media to comment on the annual honor agree that "Magic Mike" stud Channing Tatum is an appropriate choice. After all, the public did spend over $113 million at the box office last summer to see him relive his stripper past.

However, RyGos' faithful following isn't keeping too quiet. BuzzFeed led the charge by calling People's decision "blind, ignorant and dumb," while plenty of others in the Twitterverse echoed that sentiment.

Under the hashtag, #TeamRyan, one tweet suggested that "People should just start a monthly Ryan Gosling mag to make up for the travesty of not picking him for Sexiest Man again." Another asked if People was simply "waiting to award Ryan Gosling Sexiest Man of the Universe."

More likely is the possibility that he'll claim the title in 2013.  As TheWrap's Brent Lang pointed out earlier, Tatum had three hits this year that each made over $100 million at the box office, while Gosling had none.  That's only because he was hard at work on making his glorious return to the big screen in four upcoming films — "The Place Beyond the Pines," "Gangster Squad," "Only God Forgives" and an untitled Terrence Malick project.

So although any outrage over Gosling once again being denied the Sexiest Man Alive title is completely understandable — cheer up!  At just 32-years-old, his hunky good looks aren't fading any time soon and his future in the movie industry is brighter than ever.  Providing he doesn't die anytime soon, I suspect it won't be long until the will of the people is reflected by People.

And even if he doesn't survive the new year, one Twitter user made the good point saying, "One could make the argument that Ryan Gosling would even be the sexiest man dead, too."
