Kate Middleton Nurse Duped by DJs Was Found Hanging, Coroner Says

Nurse had three notes, wrist injuries, inquest is told

The nurse for Kate Middleton who was tricked by a prank phone call from two radio jockeys was found hanging dead in her hospital nurses' quarters, a coroner found.

Getty ImagesThe manner of death further indicates that Jacintha Saldanha, 46, died of an apparent suicide. The Associated Press reports that coroner's officer Lynda Martindill told an inquest Thursday about Inner West London coroner Fiona Wilcox's findings.

Police detective chief inspector James Harman said Saldanha had injuries to her wrists and that two notes were found at the scene and another with Saldanha's belongings, the AP reported. Harman said there were no suspicious circumstances, meaning nobody else was believed to be involved.

Martindill said a colleague at London's King Edward VII Hospital found Saldanha hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe in her quarters on Friday, according to the AP.

Attempts to resuscitate her failed, police told the inquest.

Harman told the inquest that police were examining the notes and interviewing Saldanha's associates and family members to establish what led to her death.

Last week, Saldanha answered the phone when two Australia radio hosts called the hospital, impersonated Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles and tricked the nurse into transferring the call to another nurse caring for the Duchess of Cambridge, who revealed private details about her morning sickness.

Appearing in interviews on television, the DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, issued tearful apologies for the prank, saying they didn't believe their call would actually go through. Their show on 2DayFM was canceled and they were suspended.
