Conan O'Brien opened up his show Monday in an unusually somber fashion, saying he wouldn't do a monologue joking about the news because of "Friday's insanely mindless tragedy."
Instead, he told the audience, he'd be skipping that part to focus on "silly and pointless comedy."

Following some roaring applause, he found an especially silly way to spread holiday cheer: by reintroducing Minty, "the candy cane who briefly fell on the ground."
