CNN has hired Chris Cuomo away from ABC News.
He will anchor a morning news program for the cable news network, which is shaking up its roster of on-air talent in a bid to revive its ratings slide and to better compete with rivals Fox News and MSNBC.
The "20/20" anchor is the second high-profile TV journalist tapped by the network's new boss, Jeff Zucker. ABC announced on Tuesday that he will be replaced by David Muir on the newsmagazine.
CNN announced the hire days after Zucker poached fellow ABC veteran Jake Tapper as chief Washington correspondent, and on the same day managing editor Mark Whitaker quit the network, citing differences with Zucker's editorial and brand vision.
“Chris is an accomplished anchor who is already an established name in morning television, as well as a widely respected investigative journalist,” Zucker said in a statement. “What I love about Chris is that he is passionate about every story he tells, never forgets about the viewer, and represents the type of journalism that makes CNN great.”
In addition to his work on "20/20," Cuomo was the chief law and justice correspondent for ABC News. He is also the brother of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
At ABC, he led the network's coverage of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme scandal, John Edwards' extramarital affair and Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky's child rape charges.
Cuomo also served as the news anchor for "Good Morning America."
