Martin Landau to Receive Career Award at Israel Film Festival

The Oscar-winning actor will receive the honor at April 18 opening night gala

Academy Award-winning actor Martin Landau will be honored with the 2013 Career Achievement Award at the Israel Film Festival, organizers announced Tuesday.

The award will be presented at the opening night gala on Thursday, April 18, at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. The festival will run from April 18-May 2 and showcases more than 30 new Israeli films including features, documentaries, and student shorts.

Meir Fenigstein, the festival's founder and executive director, said he was delighted to honor Landau. “He is one of the longest working, most highly regarded actors in the industry. For over 60 years, Landau has exemplified the best of Hollywood to audiences around the world,” Fenigstein said.

Landau received the Best Supporting Oscar for his work in Tim Burton’s "Ed Wood," and also received Oscar nominations for his performances in Francis Ford Coppola’s "Tucker" and for Woody Allen’s "Crimes and Misdemeanors."

His film credits include "Pork Chop Hill," "North By Northwest," "Cleopatra," "The Aryan Couple" and most recently, voice work in Tim Burton’s animated "Frankenweenie."

Landau has received six Emmy nominations including two for guest starring appearances on "Without a Trace" as well as for his work on "Entourage." Landau also starred in the hit TV series "Mission: Impossible." 

Landau is also a member of The Actors Studio, where he serves as an Artistic Director of Actors Studio West.

Past recipients of the Career Achievement Award include Richard Dreyfuss and Bob Balaban.

As previously announced, Sherry Lansing will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and "The Ballad of the Weeping Spring," will have its West Coast Premiere as the festival’s opening night film.

Festival screenings will take place at Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills and the Laemmle Town Center in Encino.
