Kelly Clarkson to Perform on ‘American Idol’

The competition's inaugural winner will perform her new single for the first time

“American Idol” is making sure fans won’t forget the talent that crossed its stage over its 12 seasons.

On the heels of Thursday’s performance by Season 4 champ Carrie Underwood, the show readies to welcome another one of their success stories.

A Fox rep confirms to TheWrap that Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson will be gracing the “Idol” stage on the April 11 results episode. She’ll perform her new single, “People Like Us,” for the first time.

Clarkson last performed on the show in 2011 with Jason Aldean. She’s currently promoting her album, “Greatest Hits: Chapter 1” and will begin touring with Maroon 5 on Aug. 1.

This past summer, Clarkson recently had a chance to do some judging of her own on the low-rated ABC singing competition, “Duets.”

"Idol's" popularity has dimmed since Clarkson won the competition. Though it still wins its time slot, “Idol” has seen declining viewership. While it gave Fox the win for the night this week, “Idol” scored a new Wednesday low with a 3.0 rating with the ad-coveted 18-49 demo (a 3 percent dip from last week) and 11.5 million total viewers.

Other former contenders who've appeared this season include Katharine McPhee, Colton Dixon and Jessica Sanchez.

EW was first to report the news.
