ABC News and Storyful has made their content partnership official.
Under a new deal, Storyful will provide ABC News with verified social video for use in its broadcast and digital news coverage, as well as on Disney’s new Latino-American network, Fusion.
“This partnership gives ABC News the ability to provide our users with a wide array of verified user-generated videos from across the Web, combining Storyful’s vast distribution and cutting-edge technology with our award-winning storytelling and reach,” said ABC News Digital senior vice president Joe Ruffolo in a statement.

In this new editorial partnership, ABC News will utilize Storyful’s newswire to source new material or verify user-generated video content that ABC News uncovers across social media platforms.
Storyful recently provided its services to ABC News’ coverage of the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines, discovering and verifying user-generated video from the region.

The deal is indicative of the increasing importance of original video taken by those who live in areas where news is breaking. With this partnership, ABC News has access to burgeoning social video with assurance that the it is legitimately capturing the events as they’re breaking.
