The project follows “an upper-middle class Black man who struggles to raise his children with a sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old school father and his own assimilated, color-blind kids.”

“Black-Ish” is produced by Laurence Fishburne‘s Cinema Gypsy (“Akeelah and the Bee”) and Principato Young Entertainment (“Reno 911!”) for ABC Studios.

“Black-Ish” goes into contention for series pickup alongside ABC’s previously announced comedy pilots “An American Education,” a remake of British comedy “Bad Education”; fairy tale musical “Galavant” from Dan Fogelman; “Irreversible,” based on the Israeli series “Bilti Hafich”; cop comedy, “Strange Calls,” based on the Australian series; and an untitled Jeff Lowell romantic comedy.
