Adam Levine hates America. Well, at least how we vote on singing competitions.
A non-controversy has been struck when the lead singer of Maroon 5 uttered under his breath, “I hate this country,” into a hot mic on “The Voice” Tuesday night. Seeing two of his singers in the bottom three on the NBC hit show frustrated Levine – but the catalyst was seeing his team member, country singer Amber Carrington, as the one saved. Some fans were outraged by the comment, voicing their displeasure on Twitter. Others were stunned that “Team Adam” was in that position in the first place, and that fan favorite Judith Hill was eliminated.
Levine responded on Twitter early Wednesday morning, posting, “joke- noun 1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or prankish act”
On Wednesday morning, Levine futher clarified his patriotism through a statement obtained by TheWrap.
"I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration," the judge explained. "Being a part of 'The Voice,' I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed. Last night’s elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results. I am very connected to my artists and know they have long careers ahead, regardless of their outcome on the show."
