Despite media reports and employee tweets to the contrary, Al Jazeera America will not launch on Aug 20. An Al Jazeera spokesperson told TheWrap that there is no official launch date, nor has one been announced.
The spokesperson said "the week of August 24" is as specific as the new cable news channel will be right now.

Al Jazeera America purchased Current TV for a reported $500 million at the beginning of this year and has since hired several notable news people, most recently grabbing Soledad O'Brien as a special correspondent.
When it finally does launch, Al Jazeera America will be available in about 50 million homes.
