Al Pacino to Play Matisse in ‘Masterpiece’

Versatile Oscar winner moves from Jack Kevorkian to playing a French master

Al Pacino will be flexing some serious artistic muscle in his next project.

According to Variety, the "Scent of a Woman" actor, who recently won accolades for his portrayal of Jack Kevorkian on HBO,  will next play Henri Matisse in the upcoming biopic "Masterpiece."

The film focuses on the French artist's relationship with his nurse/muse, Monique Bourgeois.

It wiill be produced by Escape Artists, with Escape Artists' Todd Black, Steve Tisch and Jason Blumenthal producing and Chris Coggins co-producing. 

Deepa Mehta ("Water") is attached to direct, working from a script penned by Donald Martin.

The project is currently in development and does not yet have a start date, though the producers will reportedly begin casting for a female lead in the next month.
