Alec Baldwin Defends Martin Bashir Over MSNBC Resignation, Slams Network

“Bashir created great television,” the actor said

Alec Baldwin came to the defense of fellow former MSNBC host Martin Bashir on Twitter late Wednesday and had some harsh words for his former network.

“I wish @MartinBashir the best of luck,” Baldwin wrote. “Some of these cable venues really are Off-Off Television.”

“And their need for a reliable, even forced, homogeneity is more apparent than ever.”

Baldwin, whose own MSNBC show “Up Late” was canceled two weeks ago after the actor was caught on camera using a gay slur, said Bashir’s career shouldn’t have been ruined by one transgression.

“Broadcasters on certain networks are called upon to offer analysis of events and public policy, day in, day out, often with tremendous aggression and scalding language,” Baldwin wrote.

“If, over the course of hundreds of hours on air, they commit a foul… then it’s like high-sticking in hockey or a late hit in the NFL. Throw a flag. But to end someone’s job?”

The actor clarified his sentiment Thursday morning, tweeting: “You can disapprove of Bashir's single remark and still acknowledge his talent.”

Bashir resigned from the network Wednesday following flap over graphic comments he made on air criticizing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

One Transgression????? WHAT????? What about what he did to MJ? he edited the s**t out of that Living With Michael Jackson 2020 Special back in 2003. He shouldn't have even been able to bash people on another show because he has a track record for doing this. and after Sarah Palin dies he's going to come out and say he was sorry for the way he treated her too, like he did with MJ. e said the truth is he NEVER saw any wrong doing on MJ's part. Too Little Too Late Bashit don't let the Door hit ya where the good lord split ya. I hope he don't get another platform to blab his hateful remarks about anyone else.
    Good Riddance Bashit

I agree with Alec that MSNBC should never have gotten into it about him yelling at the paparazzi the guy probably deserved to get his face smashed in. What Alec did is nothing more than most of us do when someone intrudes in our lives and steps over the line. As for Bashir, IDK, I don't like him very much and what he said was scripted and said on the air.

MSNBC is so lame. They insult the black grandson of Mitt Romney, make gay slurs, and make misogynist comments about Palin… and then consider the people at Fox News to be barbarians, yet both networks are nothing more than propaganda outlets that are worthless as sources of news.

Baldwin had a show on MSNBC? They should have fired the idiot who even thought of hiring such a classless individual.

Yet the GOP makes no mention of one of their own talking like this:

Joshua Black, a Republican candidate for Florida House District 68, sent out a tweet on Martin Luther King day calling for President Obama to be hung for “war crimes.”

“I’m past impeachment,” Black wrote on Twitter. “It’s time to arrest and hang him high.”

Chris Latvala, a fellow Republican running for Florida House District 67, replied via Twitter:

“You aren’t seriously calling for the killing of Obama are you? I know you are crazy but good heavens. U R an embarrassment.”

I think the GOP should have a talk with their own racists, before complaining about a Cheerio add.

Fox fake news guys can say anything about anyone and no one get fired, amazing. President Obama is called names so awful that I wouldn't repeat them even drunk. MSNBC at least has integrity that fake fox news only wish it had.

Give me one example where Fox calls Pres. Obama names. MSNBC has integrity? do you know what that word means? are you getting a thrill running up your leg looking at Rachel?
