Alec Baldwin Sews Up Ben Affleck/Jennifer Garner Vote for N.Y. Mayor Race (Video)

“30 Rock” star, said to be mulling a run in light of Weinergate, lands his first celebrity endorsements

Alec Baldwin hasn't yet announced his intention to run for New York City's mayoral seat in 2013, but if he does decide to throw his hat into the ring, he's already landed his first celebrity endorsements: Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.

"Valentine's Day" actress Garner voiced her support — and that of her husband — for the "30 Rock" star during an appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" Thursday. (Garner appeared on the show to promote her advocacy of children's issues.)

"I think he would give us all a run for his money. He's awesome," Garner said after the topic was presented to her. "I think he should go for it. He could run and let people vote!"

Pressed for an official endorsement, Garner responded, "Yes, I stand up for Alec Baldwin!" Garner also threw her husband's weight behind the possible run, though he wasn't present to speak for himself, adding, "Yes, Ben stands up for Alec Baldwin too."

Baldwin has indicated over the past few months that he's mulling a political campaign, telling CNN's Eliot Spitzer that he's "very, very interested" in running for office. In the wake of Democratic New York congressman Anthony Weiner's lewd–and-nude photo scandal, a friend of the actor has said that Baldwin has grown particularly interested in the New York mayor's office. (Prior to the photo scandal, Weiner was also said to be interested in running for mayor in 2013.)

"Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’" the friend revealed to iPad newspaper The Daily. "The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill."
