‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ Movie Trailer Debuts (Video)

Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner star in Disney’s extended adaptation of the childhood classic

Alexander will not be the only one in his family having a… bad day.

The first trailer for Disney’s adaptation of the classic 1972 children’s book “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” answers a big question: Just how would writer Rob Lieber and director Miguel Arteta turn a short, to-the-point book into a full-blown narrative film?

Well, unlike in the book, when the young protagonist suffers through a comedy of mini-tragedies in a cursed day (and pines for an escape to far-off Australia), the film version finds his whole family running into endless bouts of bad luck and varying degrees of endangerment.

Steve Carell, who has perfected the sweet and slapstick dad role, plays the patriarch here, while Jennifer Garner displays some of her comedy prowess as his wife and a mother of four.

The film hits theaters on October 10.
