Alicia Keys Bans Her Kids From Watching ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’

“It’s totally sexist, misogynistic — she’s cleaning for seven dwarfs,” the 35-year-old mom says in an interview

There are a few things young boys usually aren’t allowed to do: jump on the bed, stay up too late, eat candy for breakfast, etc., but it looks like watching a Disney classic has just become another no-no — at least for Alicia Keys’ sons.

The 35-year-old mother of two sons is not fond of one Disney classic in particular — “Snow White” — because of its sexist themes.

“I get real funky about the classics; I don’t like [my sons] watching it. It’s totally sexist, misogynistic — she’s cleaning for seven dwarfs,” Keys told The Edit Magazine in an interview. “There’s nothing wrong with a woman who chooses to stay at home with her family, it’s a hard-ass job, but it’s the way it’s spoken about.”

Besides being a step-mother to Swizz Beatz’s three sons and a daughter, The “You Don’t Know My Name” artist has two boys of her own: Egypt, who is 6-years-old, and Genesis, who is 10-months-old. Keys believes that there’s a specific reason she was chosen to raise two boys and, therefore, it’s her responsibility to teach them right from wrong.

“I feel like it’s by design that I’m raising boys — like there’s a reason. I really feel that. They say that every child learns from their mother — it’s ingrained from babyhood.”
