Alison Brie Joins All-Female Wrestling League in Trailer for Netflix’s ‘GLOW’ (Video)

Series premieres on streaming giant June 23

Netflix has released the first trailer for its all-female wrestling drama, “GLOW.”

Alison Brie stars in the series in her first major post-“Community” role as Ruth Wilder, an unemployed, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles, who joins the upstart promotion Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in her last bid for stardom.

In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. Heading the games is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

Created by Liz Flahive (“Nurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (“Orange is the New Black”), “GLOW” is inspired by the ’80s show “GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling,” a weekly syndicated series that combined on-stage wrestling with sketch comedy. Former GLOW wrestler Ursula Hayden, who now currently owns the company, is credited as a producer and story consultant.

The first season of “GLOW” premieres Friday, June 23, on Netflix.
