‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’: First Good Look at the Green Goblin (Photos)

It’s a new look for the villain audiences saw Sam Raimi bring to life in 2002 — is it improved?

The Green Goblin isn’t wearing a fancy Halloween costume in “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” as Marc Webb’s version looks like an actual goblin.

The first glimpse of the re-imagined Marvel villain, previously played by both Willem Dafoe and James Franco in director Sam Raimi’s trilogy, popped up on the web earlier this week when a photo of a triptych poster display began circulating. A Twitter user, however, has managed to upload a much-finer version of the Goblin, and it appears to give away some clues as to what version of the character Webb is presenting in his sequel to 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

Chris Cooper is playing the character’s older alter ego Norman Osborn, while Dane DeHaan is portraying his son, Harry, who also takes flight as the Goblin. Take a look at the larger photo (below) from Sony’s marketing display to see which actor appears to be flying into action to join other bad guys Electro (Jamie Foxx) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) in their mission to destroy Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield).

Fans of the franchise will get a better idea of what to expect when the first trailer premieres on Thursday.  The sequel hits theaters next year on May 2.
