‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Season Premiere Sets Series Record

“American Horror Story: Coven” premiered Wednesday night with record ratings, becoming the most-watched episode of the series.

The Season 3 bow of the FX scare-fest — from “Nip/Tuck” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk — grabbed 5.54 million total viewers, a record for the franchise.

In the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers, the “American Horror Story: Coven” premiere grabbed 3.87 million viewers.

Compared to last year’s premiere of “American Horror Story: Asylum,” the “Coven” premiere episode, titled “Bitchcraft,” grew 44 percent in total viewers, and 39 percent in the demo.

When put up against the series premiere of “American Horror Story,” the jump was even more dramatic. The “Coven” premiere was up 74 percent in total viewers from the series debut, and 90 percent in the demo.

With encore airings factored in, the “Coven” premiere accumulated 7.78 million total viewers and 5.36 million in the demo.
