The “Stupid Boy” singer and “American Idol” judge is pairing up with HSN, the company behind the Home Shopping Network, to launch a new line of guitars available Nov. 3.

The guitar line, dubbed the Urban Guitar Collection, aims to provide affordable instruments to aspiring musicians. It includes two versions of the Phoenix Edition guitar — an acoustic model and an acoustic/electric version — available in a variety of finishes. Two one-hour instructional DVDs will be included with the guitars.

“I’ve watched some of the greatest guitarists in the world perform, and I’ve seen people just learning how to play,” Urban said of the new endeavor. “The looks on their faces are almost always the same, and the connection with the instrument is genuine.”

Along with giving affordable options to aspiring pickers, the Urban Guitar Collection has a charitable aspect — portions of the  proceeds will go to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which donates instruments to under-funded music programs, and the Grammy Foundation, which cultivates “the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture” through programs and activities.

Urban returns to the airwaves on “American Idol” with returning judge Jennifer Lopez and newcomer Harry Connick Jr. in January.
