‘American Idol’ Spoiled? Drudge Declares a Winner Early (Update)

Drudge Report says one contestant won handily — hours before the shows airs. This story doesn’t name the allegedly lucky guy or girl until the third paragraph.

And the winner is… Matt Drudge.

Not of "American Idol," but of the quest to spoil one of television's best-kept secrets. Hours before Wednesday's finale aired, the Drudge Report posted that (seriously, last warning)

Fox announced that a record-breaking 122.4 million votes were cast following Tuesday night’s performance show — the highest number of votes in the show’s history.

The total Season 10 votes came to more than 730 million — the most of any season — and the grand total of votes cast in the show's history comes to nearly 4.8 billion, Fox said.

Drudge did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
