“They should be in jail,” says “Captain America” star Chris Evans

The chorus of Hollywood actors and filmmakers expressing disgust over revelations around a famous rape scene in “Last Tango in Paris” is growing.

Stars including Anna Kendrick and Chris Evans have now weighed in, adding to much discussed reactions from Jessica Chastain, Evan Rachel Wood, Jenna Fischer and director Ava DuVernay.

“They should be in jail,” tweeted Evans, presumably referring to since-deceased actor Marlon Brando and not-deceased director Bernardo Bertolucci. The latter admitted in a recent Elle story that the film’s infamous rape scene was non-consensual.

Bertolucci revealed in a video-taped interview from 2013, posted last week online, that he felt badly about the scene “because I wanted her reaction as a girl, not as an actress. I wanted her to react and she felt humiliated… and I think that she hated me and also Marlon because we didn’t tell her that there was that detail of the butter used as a lubricant.” (Some have misinterpreted this remark to mean that there was actual sexual penetration in the scene, but there was not.)

Here is what celebrities have been saying this weekend:

“Walking Dead” actor Michael Cudlitz said on Twitter that there’s a “Special place in hell for these two scumbags and everyone on the crew that watched and did nothing. F— YOU.”

Mia Kirshner, known for the Showtime series “The L Word” tweeted:

As TheWrap pointed out in a previous article, many stars are sharing their outrage seemingly without looking into all of the evidence that has been shared publicly. One example being that Chastain mistook the story as proof that a real rape was documented in the controversial scene, tweeting, “To all the people that love this film- you’re watching a 19yr old get raped by a 48yr old man.”

Canadian actor Aaron Poole weighed in:

Writer and actress Kelly Oxford shared why she has always avoided watching the film:

“Titanic” and “Unforgiven” actress Frances Fisher agreed with Guardian writer Peter Bradshaw, saying that the incident underscores the “toxic extent of male power in the film industry.”
