Jonathan May-Bowles, the comedian who hit Rupert Murdoch with a pie plate of foam during a July 19 Parliament hearing is appealing his 6-week jail sentence, according to the Mirror.
May-Bowles, also known as “Jonnie Marbles,” is only expected to serve half the sentence, ordered by District Judge Daphne Wickman at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London.

Wickman ordered an additional $900 in victim surcharge and costs, according to the Guardian. The judge condemned the 26-year-old comedian for the fear he may have caused in the incident, observing that Parliament "conducts itself with dignity and in a civilized fashion."

The 26-year-old comedian pled guilty to rushing Murdoch inside the House of Commons, leaving the media mogul’s suit stained and pride wounded.
His defense team used the slapstick defense. "Slapstick and throwing pies dates back to the 1900s as a recognized form of protest," Tim Greaves of May-Bowle’s defense team told the Guardian.
May-Bowles has no previous criminal record.
