Apple and Fandango Will Soon Let You Buy Movie Tickets in Mobile Chat

Moviegoers can use Apple Pay for tickets in Apple Messages

Have you ever been chatting online with a friend — or group of friends — deciding which movie you all are going to watch that weekend?

Well, Fandango and Apple have teamed up to make it easy for everyone in the conversation to get into the same showtime.

The online movie ticketing company unveiled its new features for Apple Messages on Monday at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California.

The new feature will take a group of friends in an Apple Messages chat — from browsing titles to buying tickets without ever leaving the conversation.

It will be available on Apple’s new mobile operating system, iOS 10, once it’s unveiled in the fall.

Within Messages, moviegoers can tap on the Fandango icon to discover new movies, search for showtimes and buy tickets — with the added option of using Apple Pay to make the purchase.

“We think [it’s] the ultimate social commerce solution for moviegoers,” said Fandango President Paul Yanover in a statement.

Another new feature utilizes Apple’s 3D Touch tech for Apple Notifications, allowing users to use all of Fandango’s features from their iPhone lock screen. One hard press on a Notification message from Fandango launches the new functionality.

Apple Pay launched on the Fandango iOS app in 2015, and in the fall the company will extend the easy pay feature to online in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac with a single touch.
